Dr. Stoeber’s Stimulating Science Studies: Learning science through inquiry
Project Description
- Target age group- 8-9 years old - Summer camp – 4 weeks; 5 days; 4 hours/day - Seoul Korea – highly urban. - Most activities to be done in the classroom with possibilities of one field trip. (police station, fire station, guest speaker - detective, chef) - Need for a product to show parents – 1 midway the camp and at the end of the camp - Incorporation of stories, poems and songs, kinesthetic elements - To be completed January 2012 - Ideas for intermediate level students: multidisciplinary projects – ESL, science, math - 2 themes: Forensics and Kitchen Chemistry - integrate kitchen chemistry experiments into the study of forensics. Example - pH - use of red cabbage as an indicator. To assist with identification of the substance (table of the pH of different substances - blood, juice, etc.) - videos of how to do the experiments and scientists explaining the concepts (training of teachers or use with students)
